OUR AUGUST EDITIONS
On 21 August (UK), and 22 August (USA/Canada), INDICATOR is proud to present two more 4K restorations in its ongoing series of films by European horror auteur Jean Rollin, including his controversial first feature, and a lesser-known gem.
First, we present 1968’s THE RAPE OF THE VAMPIRE (Le Viol du vampire), Rollin’s startling feature debut which introduced his unique take on vampirism, and established the distinctive blend of surrealism, eroticism, and horror that would become his trademark. Released in Paris to a scandalised audience during the chaos of May ’68, the film heralded the arrival of a major new talent in the fantastique cinema. This new, fully uncut 4K restoration from the original negative will be released both as a Limited Edition 4K UHD with Dolby Vision HDR and as a separate Limited Edition Blu-ray.
Twinned with his 1968 debut is one of Rollin's least-seen and most under-appreciated films, 1980's THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTED (La Nuit des traquées). Moving away from vampirism to explore a nightmarish, dystopian world, Rollin uses a cast mostly drawn from France’s adult-film industry, including regular collaborators Brigitte Lahaie (Fascination) and Natalie Perrey (Lips of Blood). This new 4K restoration from the original negative will also be released both as a Limited Edition 4K UHD with Dolby Vision HDR and as a separate Limited Edition Blu-ray.
Newly remastered from the best available film elements, both of these essential releases contain expertly encoded presentations, an expansive selection of newly produced and archival extra features, improved English subtitles, and 80-page books with new essays, historical articles, contemporary reviews, and film credits.
