Le site presse de Warner France l'annonce maintenant pour le 12 mai 2010 en Blu ray.

One of the big vintage titles bowing on Blu-ray -- within the next six months, Felteinstein says -- is George Cukor's 1954 version of "A Star is Born" with Judy Garland. "It's an extraordinary presentation, with a lot of exciting extras," he says. Felsteinstein confirmed our earlier report that the extras include a remastered version of William Wellman's classic 1937 version. But not Cukor's "What Price Hollywood," which is considered a precursor. "We considered it, but there wasn't space and it truly isn't a version of the same story."

J'avoue que la chose m'intéresse : moi aussi plus emballé par la version de Wellman, je me lamentais qu'elle n'existe que dans une copie dvd médiocre et moche. Il serait intéressant de savoir quelle tête aura l'édition bluray.

Famously reconstructed in the early eighties under the leadership of late film historian Ronald Haver, MPI has meticulously preserved and restored Haver's 176-minute version of A Star Is Born to its original luster, bringing back the brilliant, saturated colors and crisp picture. Using cutting edge digital restoration tools, MPI removed heavy chemical staining that affected several portions of the film and utilized an ultra-resolution recombine process to correct the heavily damaged sections. Without this painstaking preservation, the fragile negative stock in which the film was created would surely be near extinction.

J'ai bien fait de pas acheter les édition collector Warner avec l'offre Fnac, c'était obligé que Warner ne tarde pas à sortir très vite ses naptha culte

Ca fait envie, mais j'ai l'impression qu'on va encore avoir du remplissage côté bonus comme c'était le cas pour le double DVD collector. Il manque encore un docu ayant le recul des années et qui retrace l'histoire du film.

Définitivement la version 1937 ne sera pas incluse.

UPDATE: "When we looked at the master of the ’37 'A Star is Born,' we realized that it really needed, more importantly, deserved a special restoration…using our Ultra Resolution process to bring out the glorious Technicolor of that film,'' said a Warner rep in an e-mail. "So rather than it be an add on…some less than-terrific extra content, we pulled it back so as not to diminish the importance of either versions.''

Hopefully, this means the earlier version will also be released in Blu-ray.

Quel dommage, espérons que la première version sera restaurée quand même et sortira de manière isolée en Blu-ray ou au moins en DVD dans une édition correcte, surtout (je sais je me répète) que cette version est la meilleure du film à mes yeux !
