Yup. Malick is not as reclusive as he seems. I saw him at Whole Foods a couple of months ago and also at the Coppola speech at UT Austin. He was sitting with his wife and ducked out before it was done. Also, I have a friend who worked on an overnight shoot in the outskirts of Austin where they were filming the lunar eclipse for Tree of Life. So, the film IS GETTING MADE. No more speculation, please. On an interesting note, my friend that was on that overnight shoot said that they weren't shooting with 65mm cameras, which the film is supposed to be shot in. I hope this was an exception due to the fact that it might have been a last minute shot and they couldn't get the 65mm cameras in time (Panavison's are in disrepair and Arriflex's are in Europe, I think)...Anymore details would be appreciated...

December 19, 2007
Brad Pitt is in talks to star in Tree of Life, a drama Terrence Malick wrote and will direct.
River Road is financing, and Bill Pohlad is producing with Sarah Green (The New World) and Grant Hill.
Pitt, who recently ankled the Universal Pictures drama State of Play, would replace Heath Ledger, who was scheduled to star with Sean Penn in the Malick-directed drama, which begins production in the spring.
Though Penn is booked to play the title character in the Gus Van Sant-directed Harvey Milk, he's still expected to play a supporting role in Tree of Life.
